About
The Queer Camp Alliance is a global coalition of organizations and projects supporting summer camp style programming for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally (LGBTQA) communities.
Inspired by the work of the American Camp Association, CenterLink, and InterPride - the Queer Camp Alliance has been created to promote the world of queer camps and provide a community for organizations supporting such programming.
According to the American Camp Association, there are over 12,000 camps in the United States alone with over 10 million people attending annually. Camps are an opportunity for people - especially young people - to connect with nature, to participate in human powered activities, and to benefit from personal and primary relationships.
With so many benefits for campers - and a massive community of camps already established - it is no surprise that members of the queer community would be interested in embracing this exciting experience. Some form of summer camp style programming for the LGBTQ communities has existed since the days of the Stonewall Riots. Today over a dozen programs are active across the world - and we believe there's room for plenty more.
